Needham lake is an old gravel quarry that was flooded and turned into a nature reserve. There's a great walk round the lake, and is a wonderful place to take the kids or dogs. Regardless of what month you visit, there will always be something to see and photograph. There is a good selection of water fowl, ducks and swans to see, a radio controlled model boat club sails most Sundays, and at the back there is a small heard of Highland cattle.
The area is fairly flat, so other than usual outdoors clothing, nothing special special is needed. There is plenty of parking at the lake.
The local village of Needham Market (itself worth a visit with a camera) has a large selection of listed buildings, and a good chip shop that's open on Sunday afternoons. The car park noted has a clean, well maintained toilet block.
